1. Who We Are
Humans and Animals United, Inc. (“Humans & Animals United,” “HAAU,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Florida nonprofit animal-rescue organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
HAAU serves animals and communities throughout the United States through rescue, assistance, advocacy, placement, fundraising, and related charitable activities.
HAAU’s Employer Identification Number (EIN) is 82-3562750.
HAAU is also known online as “Humans & Animals United,” “Humans And Animals United,” and “HAAU.”
HAAU’s websites include haau.love and humansandanimalsunited.com.

2. Purpose of This Policy
This Policy explains how HAAU may collect, use, maintain, and disclose information in connection with its websites, online forms, communications, donations, rescue activities, volunteer or foster inquiries, adoption-related activities, social-media interactions, and other online services.
We respect the privacy of our donors, supporters, volunteers, fosters, adopters, rescue partners, website visitors, and members of the public who contact HAAU.
We seek to collect and maintain only information reasonably necessary to conduct HAAU’s charitable mission, respond to requests, administer donations and rescue activities, operate and secure our websites, maintain appropriate records, and comply with applicable requirements.
3. Information You May Provide
Depending upon how you interact with HAAU, you may voluntarily provide information including:
- Name, email address, telephone number, mailing address, and other contact information.
- Information associated with donations or fundraising activities.
- Information submitted in connection with adoption, foster, volunteer, transport, rescue, surrender, assistance, or other animal-related inquiries.
- Information about an animal, including name, species, breed, age, condition, location, veterinary information, photographs, videos, history, temperament, ownership or custody information, and circumstances relevant to a rescue or assistance request.
- Information about your household or circumstances when reasonably necessary for an adoption, foster, volunteer, or similar application.
- Communications, photographs, videos, documents, testimonials, updates, or other materials voluntarily submitted to HAAU.
- Other information you choose to provide when communicating with HAAU.
Please do not submit Social Security numbers, passwords, full financial-account credentials, medical information unrelated to an appropriate HAAU purpose, or other unnecessary highly sensitive personal information through ordinary email or website forms.
4. Donations and Donor Information
HAAU may receive donor information necessary to process, acknowledge, administer, and maintain records concerning charitable contributions.
Donations may be processed through third-party payment processors, fundraising platforms, social-media platforms, financial institutions, or other service providers. Those providers may collect and process payment information under their own privacy policies and terms.
HAAU does not need to receive or store a donor’s complete payment-card information when a third-party payment processor handles the transaction.
HAAU does not sell donor information for monetary consideration.
HAAU may use donor contact information to provide donation acknowledgments, receipts, organizational updates, rescue information, fundraising communications, or other communications relating to HAAU’s charitable mission, subject to applicable law and available communication preferences.
5. Donations and Donor Intent
Humans and Animals United, Inc. is a charitable organization described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
HAAU retains discretion and control over donated funds consistent with applicable law and the organization’s charitable purposes.
HAAU generally seeks to honor donor preferences concerning particular rescues, animals, programs, or rescue operating expenses. Circumstances may change, however, and donated funds may be redirected when reasonably necessary, including when a particular need has been satisfied, becomes impracticable, or when funds can better advance HAAU’s charitable mission.
Unless expressly stated otherwise in connection with a particular transaction, no goods or services are provided in exchange for a charitable contribution.
Contributions may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by applicable law. Donors should consult their own tax advisers regarding their individual circumstances.
For donations requiring substantiation, HAAU may provide appropriate written acknowledgments consistent with applicable federal requirements.
The IRS requires acknowledgments for contributions of $250 or more to contain specified information, including whether goods or services were provided in exchange for the contribution.
6. Rescue, Adoption, Foster and Volunteer Information
Information submitted in connection with rescue requests, animal assistance, adoption, fostering, volunteering, transportation, placement, veterinary coordination, or related activities may be used to evaluate the request, communicate with involved persons, coordinate assistance, maintain appropriate records, and carry out HAAU’s charitable mission.
When reasonably necessary for an animal’s care, safety, transport, rescue, placement, or adoption, relevant information may be shared with appropriate rescue organizations, fosters, adopters, veterinarians, transporters, shelters, governmental or animal-control agencies, service providers, or other persons participating in the matter.
HAAU will seek to limit such disclosure to information reasonably appropriate to the circumstances.
7. Photographs, Videos and Rescue Stories
HAAU’s mission involves documenting and communicating animal rescues, recoveries, placements, fundraising needs, and organizational activities.
Photographs, videos, animal names, rescue histories, updates, and other materials submitted to or created by HAAU may be used for legitimate charitable purposes, including rescue coordination, fundraising, education, advocacy, donor communications, website content, and social-media communications, subject to applicable law and any specific agreement governing the material.
Personal information that is unnecessary to telling an animal’s story should not be intentionally published merely because it was supplied in connection with a rescue.
8. Information Collected Automatically
HAAU’s websites and their hosting, security, analytics, or technical service providers may automatically process limited technical information when visitors use the websites.
This information may include IP address, browser or device information, referring pages, pages visited, dates and times of access, and similar technical or website-performance information.
Such information may be used to operate and secure the websites, detect spam or malicious activity, troubleshoot technical issues, understand aggregate website use, and improve website performance.
9. Cookies and Similar Technologies
HAAU’s websites may use cookies or similar technologies necessary for website operation, security, preferences, forms, performance, or measurement.
Third-party services, embedded content, donation platforms, social-media features, videos, or other services incorporated into the websites may also use cookies or similar technologies according to their own policies.
Visitors may be able to control cookies through browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect website functionality.
HAAU will not represent that particular advertising, analytics, or tracking technologies are in use unless they are actually implemented.
10. Comments and User Accounts
If commenting or user-account features are enabled, information submitted through those features may be collected along with technical information used for security and spam detection.
If HAAU does not enable public commenting or visitor account registration, those portions of this Policy do not create or imply that such functionality exists.
11. Embedded Content and Third-Party Services
HAAU websites may contain embedded videos, photographs, social-media content, donation tools, maps, articles, or other services supplied by third parties.
Embedded content may function as though the visitor interacted directly with the third-party provider. Those providers may collect information, use cookies, or otherwise process data according to their own privacy policies.
HAAU is not responsible for the privacy, security, availability, or content practices of independent third-party websites or services.
12. How We Use Information
HAAU may use information to:
- Respond to rescue, adoption, foster, volunteer, donation, transport, assistance, or other inquiries.
- Coordinate animal rescue, veterinary care, transportation, placement, fostering, adoption, and related charitable activities.
- Process and acknowledge donations and maintain appropriate charitable and financial records.
- Communicate with donors, supporters, volunteers, fosters, adopters, rescue partners, and members of the public.
- Conduct fundraising and provide information concerning animals, rescue needs, organizational activities, and HAAU’s charitable mission.
- Operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve HAAU websites and online services.
- Prevent fraud, abuse, spam, security incidents, or misuse.
- Maintain appropriate organizational, rescue, donation, and administrative records.
- Comply with applicable legal, tax, regulatory, accounting, reporting, or recordkeeping requirements.
13. Information Sharing
HAAU does not sell personal information for monetary consideration.
HAAU may disclose information when reasonably necessary to service providers assisting with website hosting, security, communications, email, forms, donations, payment processing, accounting, legal services, or other organizational functions.
Information may also be shared with appropriate rescue participants when reasonably necessary to conduct an authorized rescue, adoption, foster, transport, veterinary, placement, or other charitable activity.
HAAU may disclose information when required or permitted by law, legal process, governmental request, or when reasonably necessary to protect HAAU, an animal, a person, property, organizational rights, or public safety.
14. Data Security
HAAU uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of information under its control.
No website, email system, Internet transmission, payment platform, or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Visitors should use appropriate caution when transmitting sensitive information electronically.
15. Data Retention
HAAU may retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected; administer donations; maintain animal rescue, adoption, foster, volunteer, financial, tax, or organizational records; comply with legal or reporting obligations; resolve disputes; prevent fraud; or protect legitimate organizational interests.
Retention periods may vary according to the nature of the information and applicable recordkeeping requirements.
16. Privacy Choices and Requests
Individuals may contact HAAU regarding personal information they have voluntarily provided and may request correction or deletion where appropriate.
Certain information may need to be retained for legitimate charitable, financial, tax, legal, security, animal-welfare, recordkeeping, or organizational purposes.
HAAU may take reasonable steps to verify the identity and authority of a person requesting access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information.
17. Children’s Privacy
HAAU’s websites are intended for a general audience. Animal rescue stories, photographs, educational information, and other HAAU content may naturally be of interest to families and children; however, HAAU’s websites are not intended to solicit personal information directly from children under 13.
HAAU does not knowingly seek to collect personal information online directly from children under 13 without appropriate parental or guardian authorization.
If HAAU learns that personal information from a child under 13 has been submitted without appropriate authorization, HAAU will take reasonable steps to address or delete the information as appropriate.
Parents or guardians who believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through an HAAU website may contact HAAU using the information below.
The FTC recommends that websites clearly explain their information practices concerning children’s information, and COPPA imposes additional requirements on covered operators collecting personal information online from children under 13.
18. Social Media
HAAU maintains or may maintain profiles on third-party social-media services, including Facebook and Instagram.
Information posted publicly on a social-media platform may be visible to other users and is governed by the privacy settings, policies, and terms of the applicable platform.
Communications with HAAU through social media may be retained or used as reasonably necessary to respond to inquiries, coordinate rescue activities, administer organizational matters, or further HAAU’s charitable mission.
19. Intellectual Property and Website Content
Unless otherwise indicated, HAAU’s name, original text, graphics, photographs, videos, rescue materials, website content, branding, and other original materials are owned by or used with permission of Humans and Animals United, Inc. and may be protected by applicable copyright, trademark, or other laws.
Third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners or licensors.
No website content may be reproduced, distributed, modified, sold, or used commercially without appropriate authorization except as permitted by law.
20. Website Disclaimer
Information provided through HAAU’s websites is intended for general informational, charitable, educational, and organizational purposes.
Website information is not veterinary, medical, legal, tax, or other professional advice.
Animal rescue situations are fact-specific, and HAAU cannot guarantee that it will be able to accept, rescue, transport, fund, treat, foster, place, or otherwise assist every animal or request brought to its attention.
Nothing on an HAAU website creates a contractual obligation to provide assistance, funding, rescue, placement, adoption, veterinary care, transportation, or other services.
21. Changes to This Policy
HAAU may update this Policy to reflect changes in its websites, rescue activities, donation practices, technology, third-party services, or applicable requirements.
The current version will be posted on the applicable HAAU website with an updated effective date.
