Sometimes, the smallest visitors can leave the biggest impression.

For Rosa Fond, President and Founder of Humans & Animals United (HAAU), creating a safe place for animals has always meant more than helping the dogs and cats most often associated with animal rescue. It means respecting and protecting all living creatures — including the wildlife that happens to wander into our own backyards.

One day, while tending to the flowers in her Florida garden, Rosa discovered an unexpected little resident tucked safely inside one of her roses: a tiny tree frog.

Rather than disturbing him, Rosa allowed her new visitor to stay. The little frog continued returning to the flowers, finding shelter among the petals and eventually becoming a very welcome part of the garden.

It was a simple encounter, but one that beautifully reflects the philosophy behind Humans & Animals United.

At HAAU, we believe compassion doesn’t begin or end with a particular species. Whether an animal is a beloved family pet, an abandoned dog waiting for rescue, or a tiny wild creature seeking a safe place to rest, every life deserves kindness and respect.

Rosa’s little garden visitor eventually captured attention far beyond her own backyard when the story was featured by The Dodo, sharing this special encounter with animal lovers around the world.

For Rosa and the HAAU family, however, the message remains wonderfully simple:
